If you're sending particularly heavy items then it's worth considering our crinkle cut option as it's particularly good at cushioning and protecting heavy or fragile products as the pieces nest very tightly, aiding cushioning.
What fill options are there?
Choose between 100% natural and FSC approved wood wool or recyclable shredded paper. We also stock FSC approved tissue paper and recyclable protective bottle sleeves. All these options are plastic-free, biodegradable and easily recycled.
When do you need void fill?
As a rule of thumb wicker hampers, gift trays, gift boxes and wooden crates will all need shredded paper or wood wool when packed as a hamper. It helps to keep the products in place, protects in transit, and looks great too.
What does FSC approved mean?
FSC stands for 'Forest Stewardship Council'. The wood and paper used to make products with an FSC label has been sourced from forests that are managed responsibly. These products are also renewable, reusable, and recyclable.
How much Shred will I need?
We've made it super easy; simply add your chosen wicker hampers, gift trays or boxes to your online basket, and we'll do the calculations. Our recommendation is a guide as requirements will vary depending on contents and packing preferences.
What are the alternatives?
Tissue paper is an excellent alternative for packing hampers, especially for small gift boxes where space is a premium. First, lay a length of luxury ribbon along the bottom of the box, covering it with a few sheets of neatly folded tissue paper. Place your product inside the tissue paper and fold the paper round to cover. Lastly tie the ribbon in a bow and voila!
What's unique about wood wool?
Aside from being 100% natural and its aesthetic appeal, wood wool has long been known for its protective qualities. Originally designed to transport pottery, the lightweight shredded timber makes a great filler for fragile bottles, jars, ceramics, and more. There's a lot of volume and bounce in it, so a little goes a long way.

Standard straight cut paper shred is ideal for cushioning lighter gifts. You'll need to tease apart this style of paper shred, but it will give your hampers a more rustic and handmade appearance.
We recommend our 4mm crinkle cut shred for packing heavier gifts, such as bottles and jars, as its accordion-like structure maintains its shape and volume. Dust-free crinkle cut paper shred is perfect for cushioning products, filling voids, and keeping gifts secure during shipping.
