The official theme of Earth Day 2025 is ‘Our Power, Our Planet’. At Gadsby, we're already taking action to help our world but can still do more. We're committed to closely tracking and reducing output, not simply trading carbon credits. We can break down our principles into three key categories:

1. Optimising packaging and reducing wastage

  • Lowering the carbon footprint of our items is key. We nest products together and unnest upon arrival, minimising container shipments.
  • We police plastic use in our packaging and challenge our teams to reduce the amount that's used, with a target of eliminating it by the end of 2025.

2. Addressing the negative impact of global business

  • We will halve our scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030. We’ve hit our target to be a carbon neutral company and will reach Net Zero by 2045.
  • Our Planet Mark certification means our targets align with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). This is the World’s only framework for corporate net zero targets in line with climate science.
  • Each quarter we calculate the emissions generated by our ocean freight then offset 100%. Offsetting isn't a perfect way of reaching net zero, but we think it's a good first step. We do not air freight stock and offset all emissions from airfreighted samples.
  • We ship stock via routes that have a lower mileage and footprint, if available. We book on vessels with eco-friendly fuel when we can.
  • We communicate with our team in the Far East virtually, reducing the need for international air travel and the emissions it generates.

3. Investing in developments that reduce impact

  • We work with factories on projects that reduce impact. We've installed new water treatment plants, helped update to cleaner energy sources and developed products to reduce the need for pollutants.
  • We’ve helped factories put solar PV on their buildings and install heat treatment plants that remove the need for chemical fumigation. Heat treatment is also used at our UK site.
